Youth Art Month 2026

March is Youth Art Month

Youth Art Month is an annual observance that celebrates the visual arts and art education for young people. Taking place in March, this month-long event aims to emphasize the value of art and creativity in education.

This year, My Good Brain is hosting its 3rd Annual Youth Art Month Student Art Contest to showcase and support the artistic achievements of students across San Diego, promoting the importance of arts in the overall development of young minds.

2026 Theme:

You Belong Here: Art for Every Voice

Students in Grades 1–12 across the San Diego area are invited to create artwork that explores themes of belonging, community, connection, and the role relationships play in mental wellness.

What does it feel like to belong? Who makes you feel seen? What does your community look like? How does connection help you through hard times?

There are no wrong answers — only YOUR voice, YOUR story, YOUR vision.

Born in Sendai, Japan, she lived most of her young adult life in the Midwest before moving to California in the mid 80's. She is currently exploring mixed media and other collaborative art-related projects.

  • : The focus for my paintings and illustrations rely heavily on symbolism, color, and representation. Born into a military family and being of a multicultural background, I have traveled to many places across the United States, met a lot of diverse individuals who all influenced me in growth and art. I started drawing around age 10 and by the time I reached high school, I focused on illustrations of human figures, animals, and still lifes. Earning and receiving my BA from SFSU,  introduced me to oil  painting, which has become my main choice of medium. I still, however, indulge in other mediums: colored pencils, various 3D materials, and digital drawing platforms. To date I have completed 3 murals within San Francisco and am currently commissioned for a statue restoration project at a local church. I am also a co-founder of  A+A Studio Art, an upcoming online art shop and business with my fellow artist and sister, Arielle Ruiz.  My art, for me, is forever evolving and changing in terms of message, materials, execution and style. I want my art to reflect my growth and perceptions of the world around me!
