Supporting Bay Area Students
My Good Brain’s impact this year has been extraordinary, thanks to the support of our growing team of volunteers, community partnerships, and grants:
Tool Kit Program Expansion: Donated 465 Tool Kits in 2024, with 165 Tool Kits distributed in Fall 2024. These Tool Kits are now reaching San Mateo County students in the Town of Colma.
We are excited to expand our Tool Kit Program to Santa Clara County beginning in early 2025!
Since February 2021, we have donated a total of 1168 Tool Kits to students in the SF Bay Area community!
School counselors and staff provide them to their students who are in need of supplementary mental health support outside of the school setting. And their positive reviews and feedback about the Tool Kit Program has been largely motivating for us to create more and more of these art therapy tool kits for youth!
Starbucks Neighborhood Grant
In Summer 2024, My Good Brain was awarded a $5,000 Starbucks Neighborhood Grant, thanks to the nomination from the Starbucks NorCal Disability Advocacy Network and individual Starbucks partners in the SF Bay Area. This generous support, received during as part of our May Mental Health Awareness Month fundraiser, not only helped us surpass our $2,000 goal but also empowered us to expand our in-person events in the San Francisco Bay Area and deliver more art therapy Tool Kits for the Fall 2024/Spring 2025 school year. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Starbucks for championing our mission to use art-based interventions as a coping mechanism and awareness vehicle for youth mental health.
New Partnership: Ridwell
This year, we’re taking our commitment to sustainability to the next level through our exciting new partnership with Ridwell! Building on last year’s shift to recyclable packaging and reusable, multi-purpose art products, we’re now showing youth how to create art using everyday items while promoting eco-friendly practices.
Ridwell helps us collect and repurpose art materials sustainably, ensuring that nothing goes to waste. Together, we’re teaching the next generation of artists that creativity and sustainability go hand in hand. Plus, Ridwell is now the official sponsor of our Sunday Art Club videos, helping us inspire even more families through accessible and sustainable art projects.
Building Community
Teen Creative Arts Workshops
This year, we proudly relaunched our Teen Creative Arts Workshops at the Newark Library, bringing back in-person sessions to engage and inspire young minds. These workshops were led by five incredible guest artists from the San Francisco Bay Area, each showcasing how art can be a powerful tool for supporting mental well-being. Teens had the unique opportunity to learn from these professionals and explore creative outlets to manage stress and boost their emotional health.
Library Workshops Expansion
Our Library Workshops have expanded to three locations: Fremont, Union City, and Newark Libraries. To better serve our diverse community, we’ve made resource materials available in Spanish, ensuring Spanish-speaking families feel welcomed and supported. These workshops continue to provide accessible and inclusive spaces for families to learn and grow together through art and social-emotional learning activities.
Since February 2021, My Good Brain has hosted 50+ events, including workshops, art contests, and community gatherings:
Youth Art Month Contest: Sponsored by Blick Art and Flax Art Gallery, with winning pieces displayed at the Fremont Main Library and the Triton Museum of Art Digital Gallery.
Fremont Street Eats: Interactive arts and crafts events, engaging families from May to September 2024.
Providing Educational Resources to Parents & Teachers
At My Good Brain, we’re committed to equipping parents and educators with tools to support children's mental wellness. Our website now hosts an extensive collection of 20+ blogs, 10 infographics, 5 zines, and 15 downloadable resources, offering practical tips and strategies on mental health and social-emotional learning.
We’re also excited to announce our partnership with the Fremont Main Library, which will introduce adapted Art x Mental Wellness Workshops for AAC device users starting in January 2025, providing vital resources for disabled youth and their families.
This past Spring, we collaborated with Certified Mindfulness Teacher Aditie Said for a 3-series special workshop focused on mindfulness techniques for youth, further expanding our reach and impact in the community.
Amplifying Good Role Models for Youth
My Good Mind Podcast
Our teen volunteers launched the "My Good Mind" podcast, now featuring seven episodes that delve into mental health topics relevant to Gen Z. Highlights from 2024 include:
Episode 7: College Application Season – Managing Stress + Pressure
Episode 6: Interview with Ting Li aka ChubCatArt
Episode 5: Social Media and Mental Health – A Tool for Good or Evil?
These episodes provide valuable insights and discussions aimed at empowering youth to navigate mental health challenges.
Through these initiatives, My Good Brain continues to amplify positive role models, fostering a supportive environment for youth mental wellness.
In 2024, My Good Brain made significant strides in promoting positive mental health practices among youth through our "Kids at Heart" video series and the "My Good Mind" podcast.
Kids at Heart Video Series
This year, we expanded our "Kids at Heart" series with new episodes and team members, showcasing adults modeling healthy mental health practices. Notable additions include:
"Skate Away the Stress: Rollerblading & Mental Wellness" – Andrea shares how rollerblading promotes mental clarity and peace.
"Run for a Happier Mind: Running & Youth Mental Health" – Stephanie discusses how running has transformed her self-perception and confidence.
These episodes aim to inspire youth by presenting relatable role models engaging in activities that support mental well-being.
