Our Impact
Supporting Bay Area Students
Last year, we donated over 300 My Good Brain Tool Kits to local elementary school students in the Oakland, Hayward, and Fremont area.
In Fall 2023 quarter alone, we have donated our first round of tool kits to schools in Hayward, Fremont and Livermore. As of November 2023, we have provided over 160 Tool Kits with students in the East Bay Area. Our reach has expanded to more schools in the Fremont and Hayward districts in addition to one school in Livermore..
School counselors and staff provide them to their students who are in need of supplementary mental health support outside of the school setting. And their positive reviews and feedback about the Tool Kit Program has been largely motivating for us to create more and more of these art therapy tool kits for youth!
Last year, we made a shift towards recyclable packaging materials and reusable/multi-purpose art products. Our goal was to show youth the unlimited ways you can create art using everyday items.
The Tool Kit Program continues to evolve and grow with the support of our local community. This year, we are proud to share our partnership with Starbucks NorCal Disability Advocacy Network! They have been instrumental in providing MGB’s Tool Kit Program with assembly space and local Starbucks Partners who volunteer their time to help us pack our tool kits. We are grateful for their time and commitment to youth mental health!
Building Community
Online Events:
In the past 2.5 years, we have hosted 46 free online arts and crafts events for children of all ages
Sunday Art Club (for children of all ages)
Teen Creative Arts (teens ages 13-18)
Each arts and crafts event is focused on an educational topic about mental health, and the art activities teach children healthy coping skills that they can use (example: identifying emotions, gratitude practice).
In Person Events:
Creative Communal at SPARK Social
Creative Communal at Ghirardelli Square
Creative Communal at Berkeley Fourth Street Makers Row
Fremont Street Eats
Hayward Parent University Community Art Events
Fremont Main Library art workshops
We embraced more opportunities to connect with the community and participated in booth events all over the Bay Area! From Fremont, to Berkeley, and San Francisco, we were able to share our art materials and goodies with families and children of all ages. Our free art activity booths have been such a big hit!
Providing Educational Resources to Parents & Teachers
We have been diligently creating and adding more resource infographics and blog posts to share research-based facts about various mental health topics. From developmental disorder prevalence rates, how to support someone through trauma, and more, we hope to share credible and useful materials to make an impact on children’s mental health and wellness.
Our CEO & Founder, Dr. Danessa Mayo, has also been providing free quarterly art x mental wellness workshops at local public elementary and high schools in Fremont to promote youth mental wellness all-year round. The workshops have been created in collaboration with the school counselors to address specific needs/mental health topics in the site.
Amplifying Good Role Models for Youth
In May 2023, My Good Brain was proud to partner again with MTV Entertainment Group and Task Force for Mental Health Action Day for the third consecutive year. We joined more than 1,400 other leading companies, brands, nonprofits and cultural leaders globally for this important event. This year, the focus was all about Teen Mental Health & Connection.
On Mental Health Action Day (5/18), we invited individuals of all ages to take ONE hour for their mental health & well-being and listen to our curated Spotify playlists.
We also shared a short video clip of artists Francisco Martin & Andre Henry talking about mental health and help seeking. Plus, Andre Henry gifted us a special acoustic version of his song "Make it to Tomorrow."
Check out Andre Henry’s inspirational message on Kindness to school-aged youth.
